Spring 2012 Ready-to-Wear: Vanessa Bruno
One of my new FAVORITE designers is Vanessa Bruno, and today she showed at Paris Fashion Week. I would have to describe her aesthetic as “glam-Swedish-snow-peasant”. Interesting, I know. I have been anxiously awaiting to see her spring collection, and she did not disappoint! Woo-wooooooo:

Spring 2012 Ready-to-Wear: Stella McCartney
Looking at Stella McCartney’s collection brings me back—wayyyyyyy back—to the Magic Eye craze of the 1990’s. God what simpletons we were in the 90’s. It took so little to entertain us (pogs….slap bracelets….MILKY PENS!!! Need I continue?).
So although Mrs. Stella’s collection evokes memories of staring cross-eyed at a book until I could see...

Spring 2012 Ready-to-Wear: Chloé
I love Chloé. Always. I don’t know what it is exactly, but all the looks are always so….fresh? I feel just as clean looking at the clothes as I do when I wear the line’s perfumes. There is just something very soft and feminine about every collection. I find that I can often easily identify a Chloé piece when I see one, more so than any other designer (with the exception of...

Spring 2012 Ready-to-Wear: Temperley London
Ruffles, fringe, folds, floral appliqués, polka dots, and of course, turbans (aka the head fixture at almost every show) helped evoke the romantic elegance that defined Temperley London’s spring collection.
<——LOVED the blush lace jumpsuit

Spring 2012 Ready-to-Wear: The Ethereals (3.1...
I clump these three collections together (in my mind at least) due to their common theme of fabrics that float away from the body in soft whites and pastels. While 3.1 Phillip Lim had more of a structured look, Rebecca Taylor and Jenny Packham made far more use of sheers, lace, and beading.

Spring 2012 Ready-to-Wear: Oscar de la Renta
Truly, nobody can even hold a candle to this man. Stunning. I have no words.
Ok I have some words. The thing about Oscar de la Renta is, even if you wouldn’t be caught dead WEARING any of his designs (why someone wouldn’t be caught dead wearing them I couldn’t tell you, maybe Jesus is their personal designer or something), there is absolutely no denying that his designs are...
thecakeisalie asked: What kind of fashion advice can you give to a plus size shopper? I love all the styles you post on the site, but aside from shoes, there's nothing on here that I can apply to my wardrobe (yet). I'm sick of wearing black all the time and living in hoodies!

Another of my Fashion Week favorites, Zac Posen’s collection mainly consisted of structured dresses and gowns. Anyone who says they have ZERO interest in fashion::ahem-ladies-at-the-table-next-to-me-at-dinner-the-other-night-ahem::needs to seriously take a look at the gowns in this collection—the craftsmanship is unreal.

Spring 2012 Ready-to-Wear: Carolina Herrera
After perusing through the various Fashion Week collections, I was surprised to find that one of my favorites was Carolina Herrera’s ready-to-wear. I say “surprised” only because I’ve never considered myself a major fan, more “indifferent” (sorry CH, I know that must just crush you). This season however, my socks have been straight-up knocked off! IMHO, it is...

Hailee Steinfeld: Loving YOU!
The girl’s not even fifteen, yet I’m envious of her wardrobe. I don’t know whether or not she has a stylist, but regardless, I suspect she simply has a good eye. An unusually good eye, given her age. (Granted, probably not many fourteen-year-olds have Karl Lagerfeld in their inner circle, so….) Speaking of age, take note of how appropriate she always looks. She has a...

What to Take in Case of a Hurricane Evacuation: A...
This weekend, I was forced to abandon my humble abode in fear of Hurricane Irene. This was quite stressful for me. How was I possibly going to quickly and efficiently pack all the necessary items I would need to restart my life after Irene completely wiped out New York?? I needed to map out my emergency E-Vac plan, and fast!
First was the obvious: my jewelry. Now I had to be...

If you are on a budget and/or have enough self-discipline to not go hog-wild when at the mall, then 1) you are a better person than I, congratulations, and 2) these are my suggestions for what shoes should be in your arsenal:
Pointy-Toe Unembellished Flats
These are good for wearing under wider pants, when you just want your toes to “peek” out from underneath. I find that a...

It's the most wonderful tiiiiimmmeee of the year!...
For me, it is the best fashion event of the year. Better than the Oscars, better than the Golden Globes, better than the Grammy’s.
The Costume Institute Gala is an annual ball held to celebrate each year’s opening of the fashion exhibit at the Met’s Costume Institute. The theme this year honored the late (and great) Alexander McQueen and the exhibition Savage Beauty, which...

Ellie's Favorite Things! (Disclaimer: No, I'm not...
So you know how every fashion publication is always coming up with lists of “staples”? (For any boys who are reading: these staples are the kind that hold your wardrobe together, not your papers.) Well I have decided to share what MY staples are. Now, usually articles will mention the following as wardrobe essentials: a trenchcoat, a cardigan, a little black dress, a pencil skirt, a...

Tip #8: Pretty on Hanger Does Not=Pretty on You...
Now, no disrespect, but not everything that looks good is going to look good on YOU. Sorry, thats just the facts of life. My last tip was to try something on even if it looks appalling on the hanger, and my current tip is to try something on even if it looks like Cinderella’s ball gown on the hanger. (I’m not saying this to be mean, I promise. I’m saying this to be your...

Tip #7: Ugly on Hanger Does Not=Ugly on You
Do not automatically dismiss an article of clothing simply because it looks like a dishrag on the hanger, because it won’t necessarily look that way on YOU. What looks like a fabric sample on that rack might be a beautifully draped cardigan on your hot bod! Never judge a book by its cover and never judge a covering by what its hanging on!

Fashion as an Art Form
Painting. Sculpting. Illustrating. Coloring-booking. All of these things are pretty much universally regarded as “art”. But what about fashion? True, some credit fashion as being an art form, but to say it is universally seen as such would probably be inaccurate. Hmmmm, why is this?
Let’s break it down shall we?
First of all, what is art? All I have is my own...

Tip #6: Get your harrr did!
When getting dressed, you simply can’t make any final decisions until you look the way you’re going to when you walk out the door! Everything about your overall look (hair, skin, eyes, etc.) must be done, not just your clothes, otherwise you’re not truly getting the full picture. A KEY aspect of your overall look is hairstyle. Your hairstyle is what is going to balance your look....

"Tight" vs. "Fitted"
In my last post, I answered someone’s (a guy’s) question by suggesting clothes with a good “fit”. After reading my response, that person later said to me, “But I don’t like wearing tight clothes, they make me feel fat”—thereby inspiring this post! First off, I think it is a common misconception that “fitted” and “tight” mean...

Anonymous asked: First of all, you are great for doing this. Secondly, I wanted to ask: I used to be in style when I was in middle school, but as I've gotten older I've found to really have let myself go in that regard. I basically wear the same jeans every day and a worn t-shirt. I think my girlfriend likes it when I get dressed up, but it's not always easy to do (sometimes I'm in the mood and...

Tip #5: The Test Drive
Have you ever tried something on in the fitting room and loved it….or so you THOUGHT….only to try it on at home to discover that it does not in fact make you look as though you have the bootay-tay of a Kardashian, the arms of Michele Obama, OR even the pearly whites and perfect skin tone of Halle Berry? So have I! Maybe its because in most fitting rooms, the lighting makes you look...

Tip #4: When to Spend
For staples like solid colored/neutral tanks, t-shirts, and long-sleeved t-shirts, you don’t need to spend money on a brand such as James Perse or Michael Stars (I mean, you CAN if you have spare 20’s lyin’ around I suppose). H&M has some of the best basic tank tops, tees, and long sleeves (try them on first, every single one may fit slightly differently). Target is another...

Tip #3: Why guy hot is better
Listen up ladies! This is a good one:
When you are going out (with the purpose of meeting dudes, in particular), ask yourself if you look “girl hot” or “guy hot”. For instance, “girl hot” might be aesthetically pleasing, but does nothing to emphasize YOU. In my opinion, “girl hot” is the look created to make other ladies ask “omg where did...

Tip #2:
Before choosing a style icon, famous or not, ask yourself if you admire their STYLE, or if you admire their flat stomach, blonde hair, money, boobs, or taste in boyfriends. It’s kind of an important distinction.

Rachel Bilson-the woman KNOWS how to dress!
and my favorite for about the past six years:
Sienna Miller-She truly has an innate sense of style.

Tip #1:
For inspiration and to see if your favorite fashionable celebrity REALLY has a knack for styling his or her self, go to a fan-made website and look at the CANDID pics, not the Events/Public Appearance pictures. You can get a lot of great ideas from those candid pictures, if the celeb is a fashion freakazoid.

Why hello, I didn't see you there.....
So in an attempt to break free of my current career mistake/choice, I’ve decided to embark on a new path, in hopes of eventually doing something I love and getting paid mad money for it. Just kidding. Except not really. Ultimately, I would love to style people for a living. Unfortunately there is no such thing as “styling college”, so it was suggested that I start a fashion...
